About me

I have worked as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader for over a decade. I studied Linguistics as part of my university degree and am also a qualified proofreader and translator (German into English).

I am a passionate reader and appreciate well-crafted writing in both fiction and non-fiction. I am always frustrated when a good book is spoiled by careless errors or poor structure and frequently rage at websites and articles that are riddled with mistakes.

Even when ‘off duty’ I cannot read an article or advert without spotting errors, sometimes to the annoyance of friends and family! I find that I am copyediting and proofreading all the time and thinking of better ways to express what I am reading, even on billboards and underground trains.

I have also worked as a teacher and tutor, and enjoy helping people to improve their skills. One of my areas of focus has been working with people who do not have English as their first language and advising them on ways of making their writing sound more like that of a native speaker. I have also worked with a number of first-time fiction authors, giving advice on elements such as characterisation and plot alongside standard copyediting and proofreading.

Aside from fiction, I have experience in a wide range of fields, including education, hospitality, paper chemicals, timber and banking, and I would be happy to consider copyediting and proofreading any subject.
